Rihiveli Reopens ... and Welcomes Guests with Newly Appointed Mascot! |

Exciting news! Construction has finally been completed and Rihiveli Beach Resort is now back in operations again but with additional facilities and improved features!
It had taken two months and a lot of hard work (thanks to the great collaboration and teamwork between Rihiveli’s staff and the contractors to finish on time!) but it was definitely worth the effort! The resort now has additional units of two new triple-sharing bungalows that feature external shower bathrooms and a new duplex villa that can accommodate four persons. The island also now boasts a refurbished dive centre, a new windsurfing school and a new spa. The existing bungalows were also refurbished with new terraces and bathrooms, and features wooden floors and new decorations. And a chill-out corner cum bar is expected to be completed later in September.
But one thing remained unchanged: the same welcoming staff! And the island still lives strictly by the old rule: “No news, no shoes.” One will feel nothing but absolute relief from the outside world the moment one sets foot on the sandy shores of Rihiveli.
And here is more good news! The “Rihiveli bird”, the one that proudly makes up the resort’s logo, has re-emerged on the island again! The crab-eater, known as “Terava” in Maldivian, comes from the Andaman Islands and has been known to fly to The Maldives during migration, but none has been sighted for the last 10 years.
However, this year, a staff found an exhausted nestling that was exposed to bigger preys. Luckily, Shafeeq, Rihiveli's BBQ specialist, rescued it in the nick of time and quickly brought it to Sunrise Island where it could recuperate safely and feast on beach crabs. It soon became the BBQ Island’s self-appointed "ambassador", running eagerly towards arriving guests for a little titbit.
During the renovation of the resort, the staff brought the bird back to Rihiveli island and it is currently residing at the reception area, and getting between everyone’s legs while clambering after crabs. No one is complaining though! |

Hard Rock Hotel Bali recently hosted the hosted the School of Hard Rocks – ‘Rock 101’, an internal management conference immersed in the spirit of Rock ‘n Roll. The one-week programme that held from 5 – 9 June 2006 was lead by Jim Knight, Senior Director of Training & Development from Hard Rock International. The concept of this conference revolves around the Hard Rock culture, standards and revolutionary management best practices. All in all, a total of 62 participants from the Asia Pacific region’s of Hard Rock Hotels and Hard Rock Cafés took part in the event. |

Irshad Mubarak isn't. An enterprising environmentalist on the island, Irshad is developing a nursery of indigenous trees to be planted on Langkawi for the purpose of absorbing the carbon emissions of air travel.
To sustain the project, Langakwi visitors, past, present or future, can purchase the equivalent in trees grown to cancel out the carbon emissions of the flight they took, or will take, to get here. You can find out more about Irshad and his project on www.malaysia-wildlands-project.com. There is a table that will calculate your carbon emissions between any two points in the world.
