Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya, awarded “Hard Rock Hotel of the Year”, 2005 by
Hard Rock International, recently opened its doors and rolled out the red carpet for legendary music industry photographers and writers, Baron
Wolman and Jerry Hopkins.
Both were warmly received by Hard Rock Pattaya Band Members (staff), led by General Manager Andrew Khoo.
Jerry Hopkins has published more than 1,000 magazine articles and 27 books, including three international best-sellers.
His biography of rock singer Jim Morrison, No One Here Gets Out Alive, was a No. 1 bestseller (New York Times) in 1980, went
back to No. 2 in 1991, selling more than 2 million copies, and was a primary source for Oliver Stone's film, The Doors. Other
biographical subjects include Elvis Presley (Elvis: A Biography, published in 1971, and Elvis: The Final Years in 1980;
total sold 3.5 million copies), Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Raquel Welch, and Yoko Ono,
earning him the title "dean of the pop biographers". The Morrison and Hendrix books were updated for re-release in 1995 and 1996.
In 1967, after a fortuitous meeting with Jann Wenner, the founder of Rolling Stone Magazine, Baron Wolman was appointed that
publication's first chief photographer. For three years his photographs were published regularly in Rolling Stone and became the magazine's graphic
centerpiece. Over thirty years later, those same photographs, picture memories of the 60's, are now widely exhibited and collected.
In fact, a framed picture of Blues maestro BB King taken and autographed by Baron himself can be found at Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya's
exclusive Kings Club Lounge.
In 1970, Wolman left Rolling Stone to start his own magazine, Rags, a fashion magazine that folded after 13 issues. In 1974, he founded
Squarebooks Publishing, a Santa Rosa-based publisher that specializes in illustrated books and wine calendars. Meanwhile, he developed an interest in aerial
photography and some of his resulting photographs ended up in California From The Air: The Golden Coast and The Holy Land : Israel From The Air.
By August 2001, Wolman had moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to set up shop in its art scene.
